Breathing Space Creative
founded by Chelene Knight
author & Creative Practitioner
Dear writers & creatives,
Let’s integrate your life, your writing & creative projects, into a thriving creative ecosystem that is uniquely you.
Your creative life is shaped by the decisions you make, not the amount of “free time” you have (or don’t).
It wasn’t until I explored what I truly wanted to do and how I truly wanted to live my life that I was able to make the choices that would lead to a sustainable, fulfilling, and rewarding creative life.
This was my first step toward aligned decision-making.
I’m Your Creative Practitioner
Hello! I’m Chelene Knight, author of five books including the award-winning novel, Junie, certified mindfulness facilitator, and coach.
With over a decade of experience in the writing & publishing industry, I support writers and other creatives by strengthening the three key layers of their creative life: the self, the project, and the ecosystem. We deserve creative lives that fit who we are.
My work is guided by the belief that creativity works best as an ecosystem. Care for yourself, and your projects grow. Align those projects, and they begin to support each other—sometimes in ways that lead to income streams that feel natural, integrated, and sustainable.
Aligned decision-making is a process rooted in confidence, self-advocacy, and vision.Your creative ecosystem is the full network of your life—work, relationships, health, rest, activism, and creative projects—all interconnected.
It’s dynamic, shifting with your energy, seasons, and priorities.
Rather than choosing one area over another, you adjust the “volume” of each to maintain self-defined balance and flow.
turn your experience
into creative power
At Breathing Space Creative, we look at more than just your writing or project.
We look at you … the whole creative. Your creative rhythms. Your emotional and energetic capacity. Your patterns. Your struggles. Your past expertise. Your dormant skills. Your priorities. Your relationship to your work.
Your creative net worth is the sum of every skill, lesson, and lived moment you’ve collected, so let’s make good use of it. So much of what you’ve built shows up in the background: the instincts you’ve honed, the craft you’ve shaped through trial and error, the emotional range you bring to your work. None of this is accidental.
When we decide to start naming these pieces as real assets, we shift how we see ourselves as artists. We move from “I hope I’m good enough” to “look at what I’ve already built.”
My work with writers is slow work.
Intentional work. Rooted in care.
My goal is to offer writers a simplified, aligned, and sustainable approach to their creative life, one that’s rooted in self-trust, clarity, and purpose. How do I do this? By taking the time to understand what’s really going on beneath the surface. Whether we’re working through a manuscript, navigating a season of uncertainty, or clarifying your creative direction, I help you name the things that feel tangled, so you can begin to move forward with intention. How we make decisions, matters.
I stepped away from working inside traditional publishing because there wasn’t always dedicated time to truly listen. To sit with writers long enough to understand not just what they were writing, but why. The way I support writers now is different. Slower. Deeper. More personal.
Let’s look at each layer
The Self
Your writing life starts with you—your values, beliefs, body, energy, and the season of life you’re in all shape what and how you create. Through reflective practices, mindfulness tools, and gentle accountability, I help you reconnect to yourself, notice patterns that affect your writing, and build a grounded, intentional way of showing up to the project.
The Project or manuscript
We anchor your project around clear pillars: your why, what the work wants to do in the world, and your non-negotiables. Using a coach-like feedback approach, I offer supportive, phase-appropriate guidance … through questions, strategy, and mindset shifts, that strengthens the work while building your confidence as a creative.
The Creative Ecosystem
Your creative work is shaped by everything around it, so we zoom out to explore how your writing connects to your content, systems, processes, energy, relationships, and the life you’re living. Together, we look at what might be possible, experimenting with low-stakes visibility, gentle structures, and aligned ideas, to see what supports your creativity, circulation, and sense of sustainability over time. This is our slow-growth approach to the ever charged word … platform. ; )
How we can work together
Everyone’s process and starting point will look different. This is why every offering is custom built because you, your project, and your creative life do not fit into a template!
We move through these areas in different volumes, varying proximities, and at different paces, always tailored to your needs.
-
Specifically for the writers! My 1:1 mentorship program is fully customized to each writer, diving deep into the craft of writing. We start by establishing your 'why,' your project's action, and your non-negotiables, giving you the clarity and confidence to move forward. While craft is a key focus, this mentorship goes beyond technique. It’s about fostering a resilient, growth-oriented mindset so you can make aligned, intentional decisions about your creative life, while learning how to build a writerly ecosystem that over time, gives back to you emotionally and financially. If publishing is a goal, we can add this as a focus too.
Custom Projects (for Organizations)
I work alongside creative and health/wellness organizations to co-create workshops, programs, and support that truly fit the people you serve. Each offering is shaped around your goals, your community, and what’s actually sustainable.
-
These 1:1 experiences are for writers and creative, self-aware people who need a safe, reflective space to untangle creative knots—whether it’s clearing emotional fog, figuring out next steps for a project, or revising your writing process for the season.
We can also use the time proactively to co-create in real time, whether that’s building a Trello board for visioning, organizing tasks, or planning a seasonal process.
If you value deep conversation, are open to curiosity over quick fixes, and want to feel supported behind the scenes, this space is for you.
Think of it like a creative clinic—one that offers space to breathe, reflect, and realign. Whether you’re navigating a tough season, stuck in your draft, or wondering how to design a sustainable writing life, this is where we begin.
When you work with Breathing Space Creative, we go deep. We look at how you move through the world as a creative. We focus on decision-making in three key areas, each offering its own path depending on where you are in your journey:
The Creative aka you, the person (the self-work)
The Project (your manuscript or creative project)
The Ecosystem (your wider creative life—the part that fuels you and maybe even contributes financially)
How do I choose the right path?
Every offering I create weaves together the self, the project, and the ecosystem, because true creative growth touches all three. Some services go deep in one area, while others offer a broader experience.

Do you want a fully personalized journey that touches all three (self, project, creative ecosystem) but focuses mostly on the writing project?
Are you an organization? Are you into co-creation? Let’s get designing together!
If you just want to work on one area …
Our creativity doesn’t live apart from our lives
I help creatives build lives that actually support their art and vice versa. Through Breathing Space Creative, I guide writers and multidisciplinary artists in using writing as a tool for clarity, confidence, and innovation. My deepest desire is to help creative people carve out aligned space to live fully without compromise. I also work with organizations to design programs that reflect this vision, helping them support artists in ways that challenge narrow societal views and champion the full strength of their voices. My work helps shape creative ecosystems—both personal and institutional—that are spacious, sustainable, and entirely authentic.
